On April 17-18, 2015 in Mykolaiv more than 25 public experts, activists and journalists from the south of Ukraine (Mykolaiv city and oblast, Kherson and Odesa city and oblast) received the knowledge and skills necessary for anti-corruption expertise of decisions of local government. The event was held in partnership and upon request of Mykolaiv Fund for Development. The idea for such event was suggested during the meeting with local activists of the anti-corruption initiative "Return the billions to local budgets", held in March 2015.
Most participants of the training "Public anti-corruption expertise for effective local government," considered the skills obtained a powerful "weapon" in solving problems related to corruption risks and practices at the local level. Among the problems that are closely associated with corruption, and to be addressed, are illegal construction, destruction of Kinburh Spit resort (Mykolaiv and Kherson regions), public transport in Mykolaiv, tariffs for housing and communal services, support for small and medium business.
